This principle is first introduced by Jesus when He taught the Disciples what is known as The Lord’s Prayer. He said: "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." There is no sickness, poverty, or death in heaven -- therefore they are not His will for humanity. Based on Jesus' prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, we know that He willingly went to the cross. He was thoroughly convinced that it was the will of the Father that He die for the sins of the world. The Apostle Paul had the same conviction, and was willing to yield to God’s will for his life, regardless of the consequences.
Every Believer can discover and know the will of God for their life. It comes by knowing the Word of God, and listening to the Spirit of God. Our challenge is to rightly divide the Word of truth and discern the difference between “Three Wills” revealed in the Bible. 2 Peter 1:20-21 defines them as “the will of the flesh, the will of man, and the will of God.” The confusion comes when people assume everything that happens is God’s Will, when in fact, they have a choice to exercise their own free will. To be a doer of the will of God, we must discover what His will is, purpose to obediently live it, and continue to seek understanding. [Ephesians 5:17]
